2.7 to 3.5 engine swap on a 05 magnum

What a first post!

Longtime GM customer but I was looking at magnums and fell in love.

I found a 05 magnum with a 2.7 that's blown. Car is very clean. They are asking $1500. Car has about 330,000 km. I am sure I can get it cheaper.

This is for the wife for her new daily driver so she don't require hemi power at all.

What is needed to drop in a 3.5? I have done lots of Chevy and import motor swaps but never a dodge.

I would like to know what I will need to swap in with the new 3.5 if anything at all. Hopefully its just drop in and plug and play.

Enlighten me.

And please, no suggestions to go hemi lol. I already have my money pit fun toy.

GreenKing is the guy to talk to about an engine swap. You can usually find 3.5 engines for around $1500. Not sure what labor would be, but it sounds like you'll end up gettin a good deal outta this thing. I wouldn't even bother tryin to talk down the asking price. If it's in good shape besides the engine, jump on it.
I will be doing all the work myself out of my garage. It will be the 6th engine swap I've done here. Excited.
Greetings. With that many miles on the car, think about swapping the transmission too. Get the NAG 1 (W5A580) 5 speed automatic if you can.

How much would this run for me? I have the 4-speed. And how much could I get for y 4-speed?

You'd have to change the transmission, TCM & shifter. I'm not sure if the PCM needs reprogramming. IMO, not really worth it unless you need a new transmission anyway.
So I don't require different motor mounts, wiring harnesses, mods to the exhaust stuff like that?
I wasent expecting dropping a 3.5 in place of a 2.7 and everything would work. Would be cool if it did.

Thanks Bill! Wish I had NAG1
I too found a car for my daughter. Her 05 (3.5) needs a lot of body and interior work. Found a 2.7 05 in great shape. The 2.7 car has tranny but no motor at all. Mechanic looked at both and believes that the cars came the same on assembly line (wire harness, 4-speed tranny, exhaust, and rear end depends on the car but no need to change, etc) and got either the 2.7 or 3.5. (parts check indicate same also for most part)We intend to pull entire 3.5 and place all drive line in 2.7 car. Probably keep our harness(s) and transmission and computer sense we know it working and already drives the motor.
Other threads say the computer will work/adapt to the engine in a short period of time. We will use ours. Most threads seem to focus on late 90 and early 2000 intrepids which obviously had some different modification needs. Mechanic noted that it will still need to be flashed to correct the vin number and maybe mileage. We will keep u informed.

So, from everything I'm seeing here it should jus be a drop in. To swap from 2.7 to 3.5 correct?
This is not a straightforward swap. As far as the engine and transmission bolting together, direct fit. Motor mounts to frame, the same location and mounts. The problem is the engine to mount adapter is different. AC compressor is different. Oil pan has to match trans, 4 or 5 speed. 05 & 06 base engines are the same but wiring is different for the coil packs. They also have aluminum valve covers. 07-10 have plastic covers and are different base engines. The AC compressor rear hole is different among other things. Wiring harness is slightly different 2.7 to 3.5 too. Really need the 3.5 harness specific to trans to. 2.7 computer will not "adapt" to the 3.5. It will run the 3.5 but it will run lean and stall randomly at stoplights.
Its doable but not without several road bumps. It's not just plug & play by far. It is doable though with the right parts. I've done a couple now. Even done a 4.0 Nitro swap.
