I wouldn't clean it, just burn it and get a new one.

I just swapped out mine for the clean one and cleaned the dirty one for the next time.
I try and do mine about every 6,000 miles depending on what I been driving through.

wow time for some service
Just had 60k service 4 months ago and they didn't change it cuzz it's an aftermarket filter. They should have at least offered to change it, or recommend I do.

I've used a car wash's engine cleaner before with 0 problems, nothing to be scared of, heavy down pour your engine is taking more with it running than while its not! best way though is just house it down, then get to scrubbing with some kind of engine cleaner off the shelf, just ask those guys with engine bays you can eat off of!
