I couldnt agree more. No different than in your house/ garrage and your aircompressure kicks on and your lights dim for a second. Its just what happens when you have a greater draw it just dont mean there is a issue. When there is more of a draw on the cars electrical system it can to a certain degree have the alternator put out more juice. This in general is a great post for newbies thinking they need something that is really a waste of good cash. I have played with stereos in my cars for 17 years and have yet to have one in any car I have owned.

I immediately forwarded this to my buddies who are into car audio. That was well written and an immediate answer to questions I have had. If I had beans to offer, I'd send them to you. Thanks.

Great article. Was surfing and had not read this one here yet. I am amazed how many people come into our shop and the first thing they want is a cap. So hard sometimes to get them to understand. Sometimes I just wanna say 'hey they cost us 27.00 and you pay 100.00.... thats why we sell them' but I try to keep it to myself. The guys at Ohio Generator tell us that a 1 farad cap is the number one killer of an alternator! I just dont sell them if I can help it.

The size and quality of the capacitors inside the amp are what matters to the sound quality. If the amp has a properly designed PSU it will have enough storage, you just have to supply it with enough current to do it's job- which means a BIG power cable and a BIG ground cable. I added a cap to the system in my Newport (a surplus 25V 10,000uf) external to my amp not as a power reserve but as an effective means, coupled with the impedance of the power lead, to filter out noise.
