Ok CM Fam,

I just got pulled over at 2:30 eastern in this little BS town of Speedway, IN which is located in the CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS. The cop said that he pulled me over because I had no tailights on. I explained to him that they are tinted and are on and also show brighter once I press the brakes, as well as the third brake light is visible (not tinted). He went to his car to run my plates, then came back and said I'm going to let you go, but you should be some replacement lights to drive around and then put these on for show. "For Show, really I don't "show" my car, that's the reason its all black you SIMPLE SIMON,!!!!!!!" Then he said you are lucky I don't have my window tint kit to measure your window tint b/c I thinki it is illegal. So then I told him that it is straight from the factory 2008 and I had the DODGE dealership "Factory match" the front window tint for me. His SIMPLESIMON @ss said that even factory tint can be illegal.................REALLY, ARE YOU SERIOUS, WHAT THE :censored: DO YOU THINK THAT DODGE IS GOING TO PUT A TINT ON CAR THAT IS IILEGAL IN ANY STATE?

So now I'm pissed b/c I've been riding with these tinted tails for a while now with no problems and I have a couple questions.

1. If there are any COPS, Firemen, whom ever who knows where I can find the LAW in Indiana regarding tinted tail lights, could you please direct me in that path.

2. I know the state law for tint is 30% of visible light must past through, The Dealership told me that. But has any one heard that the factory tint could "be" illegal?

3. Here is the picture of my tinted tails

What do you think? I'll post a night picture tomorrow.

4. Also any one know of a good place to get one of those LED Brake light bars for the rear? How do you hook one up if you don't have the trailer package?

I never had a problem in Indianapolis and I guess was lucky there ....as my dad calls it who is LEO he calls my car the "plz pull me over" car the only times Ive been pulled over was in Green Field Indiana 3 times in 45 min cause of the tail lights and my blue Hids and the 5%tint but no ticket ....the officer explained that any kind of tint on the tails is illegal so he does have the right to pull you over for that. And as for as the factory tint I dont know the laws for Indiana but in florida your allowed a little bit darker because of the sun and what not. Atleast you didnt get a ticket... and lookin at your pic your tint does not look that dark but your tails do

I have experienced the same thing, although I was issued a vehicle inspection and ordered to remove my front tint and brake light tint so it sounds like you caught a bit of a break here.

After I was issued the vehicle inspection I tried looking up the laws for brake tint here I very easily found the entire “Motor Vehicle Act” for British Columbia on the net so with any luck and a little searching you should be able to find your local laws also. Generally there will be laws of some sort regarding light transmission through the tail lights and if the cop pulled you over thinking you had NO lights on back there then my guess would be they are too dark.

Also, as far as I know no Dodge Magnum comes with front tint from the factory. You said you asked the dealership to “factory match” the front windows so the dealership went ahead and did that for you but it does not make it “factory tint”. If I recall the rear windows are less than 30% so if they matched them pretty close then it is possible your front tint is illegal.

Sounds like to me that after he came back from the car to check wants/warrants, that you should have said thanks and rolled out.

Rich

ETA: In CA, a limo tint on everything except the front windows and windshield are okay. Nothing on the windshield and then there's a percentage (I've heard 30-35%) on the fronts. Mine is still carrying the factory tint and don't see a change coming soon.

This is just a guess,
But I'm pretty sure the front doors can't be as dark as the rear windows. At least that's the way it is here in Michigan. That's the reason it came that way from the factory, and it's mostly for the LEOs when they pull you over they can see what you're doing when they walk up..
And the tails have to show some type of red in the daylight, so if you had some slats cut out of the tint you probably wouldn't get pulled over...

Bingo!!! Just have "some" red showing. a couple of small stripes.....And in Michgan as John said NO tint in front window or windsheild....and you can board up the rest if you wanted to....

cop sure didn't sound like a "simple simon ass" to me. Your tails look dark enough that he may very well not have been able to see them.

as far as the tint, your fronts are NOT factory tint, no matter whether your dealer did them or not. They are not the factory, and your car did not come like that. You can panel in the rest of the windows and the cops couldn't say anything about it, but as soon as you get that front darker than legally allowed watch out......

Me, the Lousy Cop
Well Mr. Citizen, I guess you have figured me out. I seem to fit neatly into the category you place me in. I'm stereotyped, characterized, standardized, classified, grouped, and always typical. I'm the "lousy" cop.

Unfortunately, the reverse isn't true. I can never figure you out.

From birth you teach your children that I am a person to be wary of...and then you're shocked when they identify me with my traditional enemy, the criminal.

You accuse me of coddling juvenile criminals, until I catch your kid doing something.

You may take an hour for lunch and several coffee breaks each day, but point me out as a loafer if you see me having just one cup.

You pride yourself on your polished manners, but think nothing of interrupting my meals with your troubles.

You raise hell about the guy who cuts you off in traffic, but let me catch you doing the same thing and I'm picking on you.

You know all the traffic laws, but never got one ticket you deserved.

You shout "Foul!" if you observe me driving fast enroute to an emergency call, but literally raise hell if I take more than ten seconds responding to your call.

You call it "part of my job" if someone strikes me. But its "police brutality" if I strike back.

You wouldn't think of telling your dentist how to pull a badly decayed tooth, or your doctor how to take out your appendix, but you are always willing to give me pointers on law enforcement.

You talk to me in a manner and use language that would assure a bloody nose from anyone else, but you expect me to stand there and take it without batting an eye.

You cry, "Something has to be done about all the crime!" but you can't be bothered with getting involved.

You've got no use for me at all, but, of course, it's OK if I change a tire for your wife, deliver your baby in the back seat of my patrol car on the way to the hospital, save your son's life with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, or work many hours overtime to find your lost daughter.

So, Dear Citizen, you stand there on your soapbox and rant and rave about the way I do my job, calling me every name in the book, but never stop a minute to think that your property, your family, or maybe your life might depend on one thing - me, or one of my buddies.

Yes, me, the lousy cop.

No matter what you do with little training most cops get its hard for them not to give off that " holier than thou" attiude and alot of them don't remember that they work for us. None of the above helps on a trafic stop.

your right....and thats great..has to do with "cop bashing"....people that bitch about getting pulled over for something THEY did are always the first to bash..."I NEVER speed sir!"...oh ok..this was your FIRST time and the officer just happens to be there? not likely..My car has extremely dark tint, and I have been pulled over a number of times...ok maybe what i do for a living helps me out, but thats not my opening line in a traffic stop...yes sir, i realize my windows are dark, yes sir, i was hauling ass, your right!!
If you alter you cars tail-lights, you may be ticketed... we all run that risk...
you see a DIRTY girl at the club...you know she a total skank, but kinda sexy..you take the risk right??
