I told my wife about your first post and we both said there is more to that then just being mad about a warning ticket. Cops are people too they run the gambit from good to bad just like us.

Everyone has good or bad days and that is understandable. But, with that said, the interaction an officer has with John Q Public is similar to any customer service job IMO. If someone behind your local grocery store service desk used the attitude and language some officers use, would you still shop there?

your tails are VERY dark, bro! that space you got for the reverse lights - right below it is the reflector ..... wetsand about 1/2" down from the bottom of the reverse light space so that the reflector actually reflects light and you're good. that's what I did on my tails. they have to show (legally) a little bit of "red color" according to Texas law. should be about the same for Indianapolis.

Id like to say a little something about my earlier post......Ive been called out by a few people, whos opinion i would trust to be non-biased and honest, and told that my post came off as unnecessarily harsh and somewhat condescending towards Rob. Also, that the smiley face I chose to use was taken as insult.

I meant no harm by my post, and thought that what I was posting was appropriate and on point at the time. On further review, I can see how it may have been taken other ways, and the intent of it lost by way of my chosen wording. I have talked to Rob, let him know of my mistake, and I would like to put out here, that I feel that that post was out of character for me, and with any luck will choose my words a little better next time! I respect Robssxt, not only as a member here, but as an LEO as well.

Also to clarify in my OP, when I said Front windows I didn't mean the Front windshield, I was talking about the front doors (windows). That is what the dealership factory matched for me, not the Front Windshield.

^one more clarification, for yours as well as others sake, front windows aren't tinted from the factory, so by factory match you are referring to the dealership (not the factory) matching your front windows tint to the "factory" tint of your rear windows. Is this correct?

This may be a source of confusion if you try to explain to an LEO that they are factory matched tint, becuase they will most likely assume that you are incorrect, knowing that cars don't come with tinted front (side) windows.

I understood that and stick to my original statement that it is highly unlikely the front windows are considered a "factory" component of the car. The dealership went ahead and tinted them for you which would still be considered aftermarket.

Depending on the dealership they may do illegal tints to please a customer or they may be legit and say no, it just depends on the manager and employees etc. By having a dealer do a “factory match” it does not guarantee they are legal although you have confirmed now that they are.

Yes the Dealership tinted the windows to match the "factory" tint of the back windows. I tried to explain this to the LEO, however with his attitude and comments about my race, I don't think he really cared what I had to say.

After reading the rest of the story I will offer you an apology for my earlier post! I didn't understand all that you were going thru at the time, from what you have said I think you did a great job maintaining your cool! Hopefully you wont have to go thru this crap again with them! just be careful when you are in Speedway!

Let me jump in real quick. Just a forewarning, I did NOT read all the posts. I left this site for about a half year because of drama, not ready to do that again.

Your tails may be a bit dark. From the picture, they almost look painted, not tinted. That could be the picture, I do not know. Anyhow, if you decide that you need tail lights that are not as dark, please dont buy a new set. Please read the article linked here: http://www.custommagnums.com/forums/exterior-styling/14004-how-remove-taillight-tint.html

I do not know IN state law, but as far as the front windows (driver and passenger windows, not windshield) if they are tinted from the dealer, that is not factory. Factory items are anything that the vehicle was originally equipped with from the manufacture. The Magnum is equipped with clear glass for both passenger and driver door windows and there never was an option for factory tinted front windows.

I hope that helps some. Im not trying to come off saying what you need to do, just trying to help inform.

Wow....ok just got done reading all of the post for this thread...alewis357, bro those tails are definitely look too dark...my suggestion...find a set of LED tails with a clear plastic lens off of ebay, take them to a paint shop, have them mix a little bit of black and clear then spray the tails to give it a "tinted look". I did that to mine and I have passed inspections and never gotten a ticket for them... In the Commonwealth of Virginia, the tail lights must been seen up to 100ft during the day and 500ft at night. I know this law doesn't help you but because my lights work maybe my tails will....
here is a pic of mine.

note: the left tail light looks darker in the shade, but if you look at the right tail light you can see through the lens with a little light.....and yes they glow like crazy at night!!!! just a suggestion!!

as far as the tint to your front windows....they are illegal anywhere you go, even if they are factory matched....I too have the windows factory matched and they are illegal here (35% is the limit and factory tint is like 20%)...we all run the risk....

I'm sorry to hear about your interaction with that officer...there will always be one apple in the bunch that will spoil it for the rest... Congrats on the pregnancy...and good luck on your future career!!!

i metered my rears and they metered at 27% so if they put on a 35% film then he would meter right around 30 and it would be perfictly legal where he is at. and as he stated he took it to a tint shop and had it metered and it was above 30%. and btw if his rears are factory and fronts were 20 he would be legal in new mexico so you were wrong about being illegal everyware ;)

Ok CM Fam, I just got pulled over at 2:30 eastern in this little BS town of Speedway, IN which is located in the CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS. The cop said that he pulled me over because I had no tailights on. I explained to him that they are tinted and are on and also show brighter once I press the brakes, as well as the third brake light is visible (not tinted). He went to his car to run my plates, then came back and said I'm going to let you go, but you should be some replacement lights to drive around and then put these on for show. "For Show, really I don't "show" my car, that's the reason its all black you SIMPLE SIMON,!!!!!!!" Then he said you are lucky I don't have my window tint kit to measure your window tint b/c I thinki it is illegal. So then I told him that it is straight from the factory 2008 and I had the DODGE dealership "Factory match" the front window tint for me. His SIMPLESIMON @ss said that even factory tint can be illegal.................REALLY, ARE YOU SERIOUS, WHAT THE :censored: DO YOU THINK THAT DODGE IS GOING TO PUT A TINT ON CAR THAT IS IILEGAL IN ANY STATE? So now I'm pissed b/c I've been riding with these tinted tails for a while now with no problems and I have a couple questions. 1. If there are any COPS, Firemen, whom ever who knows where I can find the LAW in Indiana regarding tinted tail lights, could you please direct me in that path. 2. I know the state law for tint is 30% of visible light must past through, The Dealership told me that. But has any one heard that the factory tint could "be" illegal? 3. Here is the picture of my tinted tails
What do you think? I'll post a night picture tomorrow. 4. Also any one know of a good place to get one of those LED Brake light bars for the rear? How do you hook one up if you don't have the trailer package?
What was the factor percent tint
