Gonna be sweet! Make sure to buy a few extra transfer cases and sets of front axles. Not sure what kind of torque that front unit can reliably handle. If you have a 6.1, unless you're going with long tubes, stay with the OEM SRT headers. They're going to be better on the 6.1 than JBA shorties. Don't forget to refresh the heads with new springs, etc.

Thanks Errbody!

If you have a 6.1, why would you go with JBA short headers? Unless you're going with long tubes, stay with the OEM SRT headers. They're going to be better on the 6.1 than JBA shorties.

The shop recommended longtubes or JBA shortys, and I can't run longtubes unless I buy a $500 transmission brace. The guy who makes the brace told me 300 than changed it to 500, and that made me go shorty..

If you have access to a dealer scanner you can just reprogram the 5.7 AWD PCM to be a 6.1 AWD PCM. Only way to do it.

#9 ·
Well if its an awd 6.1 pcm maybe ull need the jeeps pcm???

#10 ·
Nope, just take the 5.7 PCM and program it for a 6.1. Do need a starscan or wytech to do that though.

#12 ·
Sounds like a pretty sweet build! Subscribed!

Just the PCM with a starscan should do it. There is nothing different about the rest of the drivetrain that should substantially prohibit you from doing a block swap. Tranny, diffs and t-case will hlod up if you don't flog the snot out of it off the line. You will probablly be able to reuse the oil pan off you 5.7 without issue. Looking forward to seeing this, good luck!

SWEET? Oh yeah can you adopt my Magnum, just for a little while!? LOL! I'm gonna follow your build for sure!

#15 ·
I'm sure he'll be doing that less than a friend of mine running a 5.7 based 426....they are guessing 600hp. Now granted he'll be running the '09+ case though and a builder bill transmission.

yes sir , it was a 5.7 rt awd , the guy i bought it from bought it with a blown up engine , he had a bout a dozen older muscle cars and thought this would be a great project , his mechanic is a wyo tec grad and new a dyno shop with a 6.1 engine sitting around , they bought it and did the swap , they told me the only thing they had to do was to install a diablo tuner as the 6.1 does not have the multi displacement system , so the diablo turnes that of in the car .... they said other than that most of the swap was pretty straight forward ... they found the front and rear seats from a srt and the gauges , the car already had alot of work done to it so i have only added the wheels and painted some of the black mouldings one the car ...

oh the only thing i am not happy with is if you happen to rev up the motor to hear the exaust it takes to long to rev down , i dont know why , it revs up fast but not back down ... hope you dont have the same issue .

#24 ·
WOW ~ Now that IS what I'd call an aggressive build! Best of luck James.

#26 ·
Wow, that is impressive. I hope this works out with minimal issue. Could certainly be a worthy upgrade, especially if you have a few extra performance goodies tied to the 6.1!!!

Good luck!!

You know why it's a AWDSRT...? Because that's what I call it.. I've always tried to be "nice" on this forum.. Please keep your thoughts and feeling on what I say to yourself or on your thread.. Thanks for the well wishes..

Awesome! Looking forward to watching this project come together!

Will the SRT exhaust manifolds fit with the AWD? I thought our only option was the shorty headers or run the long tubes with another cross member? Or am I getting confused between 18 bolts on your parts list are bolts and don't include the manifold?

Any weight difference between the 6.1 & 5.7?

From what i have measured we have the same rear sway bar size as the SRT. Any thoughts for the front? Does not seem to many options for us AWD regarding front sways.

Yes srt headers will fit, and longtubes will fit with an added trans brace. The 18 bolts are to replace the bolts that come with the new headers.

I don't know the weight difference, if any. A lot of the suspension and trans-case will be custom.

skinn, i dont think most of us care if you call your build billy :) we are just excited to watch your progress. i think you have one of the most modded rides on the forum, and i am personally looking forward to your updates. i also think AWDSRT fits your build perfect!
Thanks homie!

James, James, James!!!! Skinn, as always...very impressive bro!! I cant wait to see it in person again!
We're gonna have to hook up when she's done.. You going to Moparpolooza..?
