seat of the pants dynos don't give a good read

 

I know....Im just saying if you have brand x or set up z and it sounds like crap or terrible drone...post it!

Or if you have bog on take off or if you have a dyno and show +5hp with X setup.

I cut the suitcase out and did stright pipe this added a little rumble and a lot of drone when 4cyl. mod kicked in
then I went with a Volant Stainless steel catback sys
and just added the JBA shorties now I am waiting on the free flow mids

Blastin Bob's 14db duals with MagnaFlow suitcast. Drone between 2500rpm and 2600rpm. Deep throaty rumble at idle.

 

5.7L - Flowmaster 40 series replacing suitcase muffler, resonators removed, straight to tips. 2.5" pipe. Low, strong sound on idle, considerably louder old muscle-car roar on acceleration. A little drone through 1900-2200 RPM range - and 70+ cruising. Switch to MDS (4-cyl) can be noticed very mildly in pitch change. I am considering either resonated tips or dynomatting the trunk/rear seat area to address drone issue (although it's not really an issue for me). Wife initially had reservations about exhaust volume, quickly went away.

 

I cut the suitcase out and put Flowmaster 40's in ,and a lot of drone when 4cyl. mod.
Then I added a set of small Cal. glass pacs and all was good.
Then I added the sidepipes
Then I cut everything out after the 40's and Im dumping in the middle of the car and out the sidepipes. Some drone but a hella lot more rummble

Had Blastin' Bob's, resonator deletes installed ('07 R/T) by good ole Blastin' Bob himself. Left the stock suitcase, he advised that it actuallyflows well.

A bit of a drone, but not bad at all... even passed the wife test.

Can't tell if the power is up, but car now sounds like it's gotta "pair"

 

I have zommers and she sounds really good on idle 4-5 rpm that thing gets loud i haven't tape here yet but i will soon i love the sound! no drone and silent when im cruising

 

Corsa

I replaced the factory system with a complete Corsa system. It has no drone and sounds great. It is relatively quite at cruising speeds but it really opens up at WOT. I'll be adding the BBK LT header's when they get released. It also passed the "wife test". She didn't think I had put the system on yet when we went shopping after it was insalled.

I had the suitecase delete, just straight pipes, and I thought it sounded like complete ass. It was too loud at anything other than idle and highway cruising and had a weird tone to it, it was clear as day too when MDS kicked in. I absolutely hated it.

Replaced it with a Volant polished stainless setup. Not only does this exhaust look kickass,(I've had numerous compliments on it it) it sounds great. Sounds nearly stock at startup, idle and while cruising, but roars pretty loud when you nail it, clearly not a stock exhaust then. Drone seems to be none existent. Fit was pretty good, but had to put a few washers under the center cross member. Also the tips don't like up in the rear cut outs perfectly, but many other systems don't either.

I bought mine a little over a year ago when AutoAnything had that insane deal for $599 shipped.

we were talking about this the other day at a M&G. it wasn't until recently that I realized why people with Flowmaster 40-series had drone and I didn't at cruising speeds.

I have Flowmaster SUPER 40 Series mufflers on my setup. apparently, the "SUPER" series has low resonance inside the car. the wife approved of the sound and the kids have never complained and I've had this setup since 2005. I have had no drone, even with the resonators deleted and replaced with straight pipes, using the stock tips. it has always turned heads .....

..... of course, now I really almost break necks because I have very recently installed JBA Catless Mid Pipes (from HHP) and even through MDS mode, the sound is amazing! the drone showed itself with the cats deleted, but I have recently installed a cam and what-not, so I have a Predator to load up my tunes ..... so I turned off the MDS and it's perfect. gas mileage is no different than with MDS on, except now I have a better-sounding V8 Hemi with a deep, throaty, crowd-pleasing rumble.

SLP Loudmouth 1 = Call your dentist... you're gonna need new fillings.

SLP Loudmouth2 - not as bad...drone at 2400rpms... but Im usually above that around town.

 

Everything after the X-pipe, chopped off. Replaced stock suitcase with 2 flowmaster 40 Series, and all new pipe out to the back. 4" non-resonated thin walled tips.

A little drone, but not bad at all. It gives a good rumble with moderate throttle, not as loud as I had expected at WOT, inside the car.

Please keep in mind that I may be a bit jaded, because I consider every aspect of a horrible driving car to be normal, from the jeep. horrible handling, horrible ride, horrible road noise, horrible exhaust noise (40 on a 2.5l 4cyl under the passenger seat), horrible braking, horrible acceleration, and lack of climate control.

I drive with the windows half down ALL the time (except for extended highway sessions), and the stereo is normally on 20-24. So, what I consider loud or annoying might be a bit off from some people...

I was given an R/T system for my 3.5L. It sounds more like a V8 with the stock suitcase on it and the resonators still attached. I've been playing with the idea of replacing the suitcase with a Magnaflow muffler (Single in dual out) and maybe taking off the resonators and putting on tips.

When I had my Dakota, I put on a Magnaflow dual exhaust and it sounded very "dreamy". The thing started up with a growl and I never had a drone. I left one of the three resonators in under the cab, and that seemed to have kept the noise level down inside, which is what I liked.

The system itself cost me just under $400 and it was customized by a small time dealer that had the same business for over 30 years at the time. I'd go back to him in the future to get the rest of what I need done.

 

Magnaflow Catback

I just installed Magnaflow Stainless Catback system on my '06 R/T AWD. Luv the sound, definite difference when you shower down on it! Drawback; there's a pronounced (putty-putty) pitch change when Switch to MDS (4-cyl). Also, 'round town, it's like the auto-trans has a hard time trying to figure out which gear to stay in, and the MDS goes in/out at a set speed. I'm wondering if there's a chip/tuning upgrade that goes along with exhaust and intake (AirRaid ColdAir filter), I may need to look into?

Try the diablo predator (if you already don't have it). You can disable the MDS with that tuner and install a tune that goes with the CAI, 91 or 93 octane depending on the gas you use. Should help out a bit

 

Someone said that they're tuner was able to turn off the MDS. I think it was on the second page.

 

I've had Zoomer's on my car for almost 100,000 miles and still love the rumble. They do hang a little lower than others so speed bumps may be an issue if your low and the car is loaded...

At idle they just have a great rumble, when you get on it they are pretty load, may not be wife friendly, and tones back down while cruising at a steady speed. No drone while cruising either...

 

My SXT has a set of Dynomax catback with the super turbo flow mufflers. I'll work on a sound byte this weekend. Here is a photo

 

I recently installed a Borla cat back kit #140112 on my 08 R/T RWD Magnum. Although I didn't install the system the guy who did said that it fit on very easily. I would say that the overall sound at idle only slightly more aggressive than the stock system, but still an improvement. The sound at WOT is much more aggressive than the stock system and keeps a lovely tone without sputtering. Just a nice deep growl. I have driven the car enough to say that there is little or no drone in the car regardless of the speed. Even when cruising at 70 and the 8 cylinders go to 4 (or whatever it does when cruising to save gas). I defiantly notice that there is more pickup when I gas it and it reminds me of when I first got her and was mashing the gas every time I could. Overall I would say that this system would be ideal for someone looking to improve the performance of their wagon without having drone in the cabin or having to yell to have a conversation.
