First off....major props to Ken (threegpsi) for making this possible. For those who dont know, I am building his new webpage (Welcome to 3gcustomz.com! Home of the Sickest Customz in the Dirty South!) and this was my payment. It still needs a lot of work, but I have nothing but time now! Another big shoutout to Kerry (NycTnTMag) for getting me the hookup on some new software so I can build the page! Bean these guys and bookmark the page!

So now to the screens! Yesterday was a great mod day for me. At 330pm the man in brown showed up to my door with not only my center console, but also with my headrest monitors. I spent some good time cleaning the new console (it was a bit dusty) and then I was off to the car. Ripped the old one out, got the new one in. It was fun, but I had another mod waiting for me. My wife said to me, why dont you pull one of the headrests out and maybe you could start working on it. I wasnt sure, but I went ahead and grabbed the passenger side out.

So I sit down with it, take my rough measurments...

I tape off around the bezel, look at it...make it level..then I commit! I cut into that fabric like it was butter! I roll the edges back and I start taking enough foam out to fit the depth, then worked on the corners and straignt lines for the bracket.

Once that was done, I worked the bezel underneat the fabric and mounted it level and secure.

I cut off all the tips of the "triangles" and get all of my cuts close to the corner of the inner bezel. Once that was said and done I drilled a hole in the bottom of the foam, towards the headrest post, for the video/power line. I ran the cord through, hooked it to the screen and worked the screen into there. (Takes a little work when you dont want the bezel exposed) Finally, I have her all buttoned up, fabric stretched properly and I still have some time left. (kinda, wife made me stop for dinner)

Headrest #1: DONE

*I might take the screen out and shave the top of the bezel corners to fit the headrest contour...we will see.

Here is a side shot. It sits pretty flush

Now it was time for Headrest #2

I took both headrests back in the house to ensure they were positioned the same. I repeted the previous steps and finshed mounting the screen. Went back out to the car and slipped them in!

Only thing I wasnt able to do was wire my A/V switch box...that will be this weekend! (yes, that is why the video wire is not tucked away into the seat yet!!!)

Headrest #2: DONE

All that and only 1 injury...and that was while I was taking the battery cover off of the headphones.

And I still have one more mod to come soon!!!! (Stay tuned!)

Thanks my man!

Nice job! clean install....are you gonna run the wires through the headrest pole and seat?
Thank you! The wires are too large for the posts...even if I were able to hollow them out. They come out of the fabric, near the inside of the right post on the headrest. I will run the wires into the back of the seats on the left side. They wont be visible!

QuickSilver, super nice write up and great job, this one has always intimidated me, but your write up makes it seem doable, that picture with the X cut in the fabric, the bezel is installed in that shot right? How do you mount it to the headrest? or does the fabric actually hold the moinitor by being pinched inbetween the monitor and Bezel? Beans for the write up.

Thanks, I was hoping to take more pictures, but almost impossible when you are trying to concentrate. It was very easy, I started my whole journey yesterday at 330 and was done by 730 (and I ate dinner in that time too)

It is very doable and doesnt take much time as long as you get your initial mock up straight. Measure twice, cut once.

The bezel was installed in that shot. This kit included short screws. I was worried about them tough, just in the event of an accident, I wouldnt want a screw in the back of my head....but honestly, they werent too long once they went though the bezel, they held quite firm and they were directly behind the posts. The fabric does help, but that is mainly aesthetics.
